The protests in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia have erupted in response to President Ivanov’s recent general pardon and amnesty of 56 people subject to investigation in connection with the so-called wiretapping scandal (http://www.nytimes.com/2016/04/13/world/europe/macedonia-gjorge-ivanov-wiretapping-corruption-investigation.html?_r=1). EU actors have been involved in mediation efforts between the parties.
