East StratCom disinformation claim:

United Nations Secretary General’s Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura is not living up to his mandate concerning the organization of intra-Syrian dialogue.

Documentation for claim

Period/date: 16. December 2016

Debunk claim:

Actually, Russia has twice vetoed United Nations Security Council resolutions, in October and December, that demanded an immediate end to air strikes and military flights over Syria’s Aleppo city and called for a truce and humanitarian aid access throughout Syria http://research.un.org/en/docs/sc/quick. The Syrian government delegation has not shown any readiness to engage in negotiations on a power-sharing and necessary reforms, including the security sector, in line with the Geneva Communique 2012 and the UNSCR, notably 2254. Russia, Bashar Assad’s ally, subscribed to these international commitments as well.
